CAs-CHIP Structure and patent information

CAs-CHIP is an abbreviation for Capillary Assembled-Microchip. It is a type of circular microchemical chip or so-called microreactor with a diameter of about 1 cm, made of three layers of thin glass bonded together (each 100 μm thick).

The CAs-CHIP features a hole in the center and eight individual angular capillaries (with a side of 100 μm) spreading radially from the hole.

The main characteristic of the chip is that insertion of the assay sample is done through the hole in the center of the chip, and as the sample is then injected into the eight channels by capillary action, different targets can be analyzed in each capillary.

Because of their complicated structure, conventional microchips have a high performance, but tend to be expensive. On the other hand, the CAs-CHIP, due to its combination of glass bonding and dicing technique can be manufactured at low-cost and yet be very accurate.
